In the autumn of 1986, in the city of Stratford, Ontario, Canada, the birth of a new and highly unique small company took place. The setting of this event was a former meat smoking plant on Lorne Avenue, converted meticulously into what would be the humble beginnings of a company by the name of I-Cast, a name chosen to represent the investment cast process. I-Cast was born the child of a sand casting facility also in Stratford by the name of Magalloy Limited. Magalloy was an extremely successful 15 year old metalcasting business, with a specific and special need…..to offer diversity of choice to their customer base which was comprised mainly of pump and valve producing clients. I-Cast was the answer to this problem, utilizing the “lost wax” process to produce castings of superior quality, dimensional accuracy, and high engineering value. Soon the first precision castings started rolling out the door at the 193 Lorne Avenue address in Stratford, marking the start of a highly successful new partnership with Magalloy.

Under new ownership in the 1970’s, the foundry became known as McLean Foundry Limited.McLean Foundry will satisfy your iron casting needs. Our melting operation consists of a 10 ton/hour cupola and three individual pouring lines for small, medium, and large castings. We use a no-bake core and moulding system.

In the year 1934, Mr. Harry McCoy, the founder of the McCoy organization formed the McCoy Machinery & Supply Co. Ltd., located at 258 Catharine Street North in the City of Hamilton, where, general machining and pattern making was done. Harry McCoy and his son Archie purchased Kerr & Coombes Foundry in downtown Hamilton in 1945. This being a continuous operating foundry for over 100 years. In these early years, grey iron was poured into molds of bank sands, drawn from nearby fields and re-worked with water each day, by hand shovel. The evolution of silica sands and binders replaced bank sand molding in the mid 1950’s. This process allowed McCoy Foundry to expand in production size and quality. In 1970 Archie moved the foundry to its existing location in Troy. Today the foundry sits on 650 acres of farm and industrial land.
